- Gazprom announces another drastic reduction in gas deliveries to Europe. The Russian gas group announced on Monday that it would drastically reduce, from Wednesday and to 33 million cubic meters daily, deliveries of Russian gas to Europe via the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline, citing the need for maintenance of a turbine. This represents approximately 20% of the gas pipeline’s capacity, whereas it is currently only used at 40%.
- Gazprom’s announcement is seen by Berlin as a political decisionthe latter ensuring that there is no « no technical reason » to further reduce deliveries of Russian gas. The German government considers this to be a » pretext « to put pressure on the West.
- For his part, the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, felt that Russia was conducting a » open gas war against united Europe » and called on her to « fight back » by increasing the penalties.
- Gas and oil prices end higher, on Monday, fears of hydrocarbon supply cuts from Russia resurfacing. the Dutch FTTthe benchmark for natural gas in Europe, has completed up 8.60%, at 176.45 euros per megawatt hour (MWh). - Moscow says it wants to end the “unacceptable diet” of Volodymyr Zelensky in Ukraine, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Sunday at the annual Arab League summit in Cairo. « We are determined to help the people of eastern Ukraine to free themselves from the burden of this absolutely unacceptable regime », said Sergei Lavrov, before adding: » We will undoubtedly help the Ukrainian people to get rid of the regime, which is utterly anti-popular and anti-historical. »
- Sloviansk, a town in Donetsk oblast, is on the verge of a major Russian attack. its mayor, Vadym Liakh, asks the inhabitants to urgently leave the commune, close to Kramatorsk. Sloviansk is partially destroyed, although it had many historic buildings before Russia invaded Ukraine.
- Russian missiles hit the port of Odessa on Saturdayaccording to Ukraine, which accuses Vladimir Putin of having « spit in the face » of the United Nations (UN) and Turkey, and jeopardize the application of the agreement signed the day before on the resumption of grain exports blocked by the war. Westerners and the UN condemned this strike, which Moscow denied to Turkey.
