Momentum for clean energy and climate initiatives is once again at stake in the 2022 US midterm elections, marked by a tightened contest for control of Congress and the potential to flip the leadership in several states wrestling with carbon reduction policies.
The outcome of the November contests could have implications not only for implementing the major climate and energy provisions packaged into the landmark Inflation Reduction Act enacted in August, but also for the tenor of oversight the Biden administration will face as it pursues administrative actions to further cut emissions.
In addition, the oil sector is bracing for the possibility of a crude export ban and added hardships to getting infrastructure approved and permitted if Democrats retain control of both chambers.
