There has long since been a conversation, following the ageing of Conor McGregor, regarding the importance of the Irishman to the lifeblood of the UFC.
Some of the biggest and most-watched fights in the history of the organisation have involved him, whether it be against Khabib Nurmagomedov, Nate Diaz, Dustin Poirier or whoever else.
This graphic further down this article puts that debate up for question, with the focus being the millions and millions that McGregor has brought in for Dana White and co.
Eight of the 10 highest-grossing fights in the history of the UFC have involved The Notorious. The only two outliers come in at seventh and ninth. First, there is Kamaru Usman’s unanimous decision win over Jorge Masvidal at UFC 251. The latter came all the way back in 2009 as Brock Lesnar won the rematch with Frank Mir at UFC 100.
Moving onto McGregor’s involvement in all of this and it is clear to see how many millions he has to his name. The number one is hardly surprising, but to build up some suspense, that can wait until last.
The UFC doesn’t need Conor McGregor anymore.
In at number 10, it is McGregor versus Jose Aldo at UFC 194. It famously took just 13 seconds, unlucky for some, for the Irishman to knock his opponent out. Then, sandwiched in between the Usman and Lesnar fights, is McGregor’s win over Eddie Alvarez in 2016 in New York.
Seeing out six-through-10 is McGregor’s defeat to Nate Diaz in Las Vegas at UFC 196. Just months later, the rematch took place again in Vegas and this is the fight with the third-highest figures, in which the Dublin man got his own back.
This isn’t the only double act to make the list as the second and third instalments of Conor McGregor versus Dustin Poirier come in at fourth and second respectively. McGregor beat Poirier back in 2014, but the two bouts in question both went the way of The Diamond, two of only six defeats in McGregor’s professional career.

His last win, in which he beat Donald Cerrone, the final victory of his career so far, just about makes it into the top five.
Finally, to the top spot, with 2.4 million PPV buys, is of course McGregor vs Khabib Nurmagomedov.
At UFC 229, in early October of 2018, The Russian Eagle won in a hugely enticing fight which was shrouded in controversy from the very beginning to even after the final bell had rung.
It is safe to say that the UFC isn’t the same without Conor McGregor and the infographics above simply rubbish the motion that the company doesn’t need him anymore.
