The capital of Saudi Arabia is set to welcome 48 hotel projects, which between them will bring as many as 9,838 new rooms to the city.
A number of luxury brands are making their mark in the city at this time, with a total of 28 five-star properties on the horizon.
Of the 48 hotels making their debut in Riyadh over the coming years, 28 properties with 6,022 rooms between them are set to have five-star status, with the remaining 20 projects, encompassing a total of 3,816 rooms, falling into the four-star category.
According to the TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database, 13 of these projects, together comprising 2,423 rooms, are expected to reach completion in 2022. Another 15 properties with 3,315 rooms altogether are to open in 2023.
These openings will be followed by four hotels with a total of 795 rooms in 2024 and 16 hotels with 3,305 rooms between them in 2025 and beyond.
Of these projects, 15 are in the pre-planning phase, six are at the planning stage, 19 are under construction and eight are now in the pre-opening phase.
Hotel brands making an impression at this time include Radisson Blu Hotels & Resorts with three hotels and 455 rooms on the horizon, Hilton Hotels & Resorts with two hotels and 458 rooms in the pipeline and Rosewood Hotels & Resorts with two hotels and 450 rooms on track to opening here.
Significant openings to look forward to include the late 2023 opening Samhan Heritage Hotel, Autograph Collection and the third quarter of 2025 opening Element Riyadh.
The five-star, 141-key Samhan Heritage Hotel, Autograph Collection is the first of several luxury hotels becoming a part of the Diriyah cultural and lifestyle tourism development, which is a part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 plans.
The hotel’s architecture and interiors have been designed in the Najdi style with timber ceilings, adobe materials and the use of traditional patterns. The site will also recreate the original footpaths of Diriyah’s kings and heroes in pathways connecting Najdi-style courtyard rooms.
Highlights of this inspiring hotel are to include three restaurants and lounges, a luxurious spa and indoor pool, event space and rooftop terraces with views over Diriyah and the Samhan District.
The four-star Element Riyadh will then take shape alongside Westin Riyadh as one of two hotels in an architecturally striking mixed-use project close to the King Abdullah Financial District.
On completion, the new hotel will house 244 guest rooms, along with guest amenities including four food and beverage outlets. TYPSA Group is behind the hotel’s architecture and MMAC Design Associates is designing the interiors.
