The TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database shows that Marriott Hotels & Resorts will significantly expand its presence across APAC and North America in the years ahead.
Marriott Hotels & Resorts is aiming to launch 121 properties with a total of 34,650 keys over the next few years, our data indicates. We find out more about the ambitious expansion plans of Marriott International’s eponymous brand.
In what remains of 2021, nine more hotels with 2,632 keys are due to open their doors.
There’s plenty of action to look forward to in 2022 as well, with 48 properties and 12,635 keys set to launch then. In 2023, the opening rate will slow down significantly though to just 25 schemes and 5,646 rooms.
Then for 2024 and beyond, another 39 projects and 13,737 keys are already in the pipeline.
APAC will see by far the most growth on a region-by-region basis at Marriott, with 68 hotels and 19,883 rooms lined up here. China’s the main driving force in all this – there are an astonishing 57 properties and 14,719 keys lined up for the People’s Republic alone, making it the fastest growing country overall, way ahead of the US (21 hotels, 6,957 keys) and India (three hotels, 700 keys).
North America follows APAC with 30 properties and 9,871 rooms in the works. Next up is Europe (nine projects, 1,924 rooms), followed by Africa (six projects, 1,277 rooms), the Middle East (five projects, 1,052 rooms) and finally Latin America (three projects, 643 rooms).
The first interesting launch to highlight is Marriott Marquis Hotel Shanghai Agile, a 720-key property set to open on the upmarket Xizang Middle Road before the year ends. Apart from its luxuriously furnished rooms, the scheme will offer a 25 m indoor pool, several dining venues and a fitness and spa area. Moreover, the entire fifth floor is to be given over to a multifunctional event venue covering 2,000 sq m, divided into banquet halls and meeting rooms equipped with the very latest technology.
Over on the western coast of Morocco, Marriott Hotel Taghazout Bay will welcome guests from early 2022 onwards. This 250-room resort, which is currently under construction, is to feature a pool bar, a spa and gym, a specialty restaurant, and a themed bar.
Lastly, we head down under to check out Marriott Adelaide GPO Hotel, scheduled for completion in Q2 2022. The 285-key hotel was originally earmarked for the Westin brand before those involved had a change of heart and ultimately went for Marriott instead. Housed within a 15-storey tower, it’ll offer panoramic views of the city and Victoria Square, as well as an all-day restaurant, tearoom and specialty bar.
