Holiday Inn & Suites Geelong
Holiday Inn Hotels & Resorts will open dozens of new hotel schemes around the world in the coming years, according to the TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database.
IHG’s ubiquitous brand is set to expand rapidly across India, Saudi Arabia, Australia and beyond, with our dedicated researchers reporting that it has no fewer than 75 projects and 19,493 keys in the pipeline globally.
Holiday Inn Hotels & Resorts’ biggest growth market overall is India, where ten properties with 1,255 rooms are currently on the cards. This puts the world’s second most populous nation ahead of Saudi Arabia (eight hotels, 5,067 keys) and Australia (eight schemes, 1,342 rooms) in the country-by-country rankings.
On a regional basis, meanwhile, APAC is clearly the main area of focus for the flag, with a hugely impressive 37 properties and 8,148 rooms on its development slate here. Europe (17 projects, 3,835 keys) and the Middle East (11 schemes, 5,989 rooms) are second and third respectively, while North America (seven properties, 1,004 keys), Africa (two hotels, 357 rooms) and Latin America (one project, 160 keys) conclude our rundown.
Interestingly, around half of these planned openings will take place in the next two years.
We’ve found that 24 projects and 4,834 rooms will be ready this year, and 17 additional schemes with 4,268 keys are expected to launch next year. Just seven properties and 1,381 rooms will complete in 2024, with 27 hotels and 9,010 keys not scheduled to see the light of day until 2025 at the earliest.
That’s the big picture, then, but perhaps it may also be helpful to examine a couple of Holiday Inn’s properties in more detail.
First up is Holiday Inn & Suites Geelong, which is currently under construction ahead of a projected opening in Q1 2023. Part of a wider mixed-use scheme in the attractive Victorian city, located around an hour’s drive south-west of Melbourne, it’ll feature 180 keys, an all-day dining restaurant and bar, a gym, a swimming pool and 300 sq m of meeting facilities. Architectus – Melbourne is working on the architecture and interior design, with Hansen Partnership – Melbourne also contributing towards the architecture.
Also worth highlighting is a 317-room hotel in Latvia’s elegant capital. We understand that construction has yet to begin on Holiday Inn Riga, which is being designed by Arhis Arhitekti, KSP – Engel and Arrow Architects. Aiming to complete in Q1 2023, it’ll incorporate Holiday Inn’s open-lobby concept – combining a lobby, front desk, restaurant, bar, lounge and business centre – alongside a banqueting room for up to 400 guests, six meeting rooms and a fitness hub.
Many TOPHOTELNEWS articles draw on exclusive information from the TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database. This subscription-based product includes details of thousands of hotel projects around the world, along with the key decision-makers behind them. Please note, our data may differ from records held by other organisations. Generally, the database focuses on four- and five-star schemes of significant scale; tracks projects in either the vision, pre-planning, planning, under-construction, pre-opening or newly opened phase; and covers newbuilds, extensions, refurbishments and conversions.
